Yandere Virus Demo Status

The official Yandere Virus demo status, including whether an installed copy can launch and what players can do next.

Published Checked

Quick answer: The Yandere Virus demo was discontinued on August 26, 2026. According to the developer's official notice, it can no longer be downloaded or launched—even if it was already added to your Steam library or installed. No replacement public demo was announced in the latest official release updates checked for this page.

Is the demo still available?

No. The developer ended the Steam demo while preparing for the full release. The notice explains that the full version's network system and stability work had changed significantly from the demo, and maintaining both network environments was no longer practical.

This is an availability decision, not a normal local installation error. Reinstalling the old demo cannot restore the discontinued official availability state.

Can an installed copy still launch?

No. The official wording explicitly covers all of these cases:

  • the demo was previously added to your Steam library;
  • the demo files are still installed;
  • you are trying to download the demo again;
  • you are trying to launch the existing installation.

The same notice says downloads and launches are no longer available. An old desktop shortcut or remaining local files do not override the Steam product state.

Next steps if Steam shows an error

First confirm that the library entry is the demo. Then:

  1. Do not buy troubleshooting software or follow instructions that promise to reactivate it.
  2. Keep any personal screenshots or settings you want before removing old local files.
  3. Wishlist the full game on its official Steam page if you want a September 21 release notification.
  4. Check the release date page for the latest full-game status.
  5. If you requested selected test access, use the separate Final Steam Playtest guide.

The full game, discontinued demo, and Steam Playtest are different access routes, each with its own current availability status.

Why was the demo withdrawn?

The developer said the upcoming full version used a significantly changed network system and had a different overall stability level. Development resources were being focused on improving and stabilizing multiplayer for the full version, and the team could no longer guarantee the demo's network quality.

That explanation does not prove a particular launch-build performance result. It only explains why the old demo was retired and why its behavior should not be used as a definitive test of the final release.

Is there a replacement demo?

No replacement public demo was announced in the official sources checked on September 20. Steam instead shows the unreleased full game, and the selected Final Steam Playtest ended September 17.

Do not confuse a playtest request or historical playtest entitlement with a new open demo. Playtest admission was selected, scheduled, and subject to confidentiality rules. Details are on the playtest page.

Avoid the common access mix-up

If Steam still shows a library entry, read its product label before troubleshooting. A retained demo entry, a desktop shortcut, and cached files can all remain after the developer has ended the service route. They do not turn the old demo into the unreleased retail game or into a selected playtest build. Use the official store page to distinguish those three products, then use the current developer announcement for the latest access rule. This prevents a discontinued-demo message from being misreported as a local PC or account problem.

Demo history

Earlier demo availability information should be treated as historical because the developer discontinued the demo on August 26, 2026. A search result or video that says “demo available” may describe an older state rather than today's availability.
